Programs

Once a week, members of the Auxiliary read with children and tutor in math for those that need extra help. Each child is allowed to choose a new book for his or her birthday.

On July 14 the Auxiliary dedicated the room used by the reading buddies to Nancy Horch, who founded the wonderful Reading Buddy program and has assisted the Village Librarian for many years.

Parties are sponsored for the children at Christmas, Valentine’s Day, PI Day, Easter, and Halloween. A Luau is in done in August and ice cream trucks are brought to the Village in the summer.

Children, chosen by members of their group homes, participate in outings once a month. It can be pumpkins for Halloween at Millers Farm, playing mini-golf or other wonderful outings that are organized each month.

Each child is provided with several personalized items, including a duffel bag to hold their belongings, a pillowcase, and a backpack filled with presents for their birthday.

Throughout the year, special events are hosted for children of all ages. One of the most popular is a petting zoo with exotic animals. Re-enactors spoke to middle-school aged children about the Civil War.

The Auxiliary has added a monthly program for the children at the Village. Speakers are invited to come and share work experiences in an effort to help the children learn more about the kinds of careers that they may want to pursue.
